Painting Impressionistic Landscapes in Pastels and Oils - Four days of plein air and studio painting

Join renowned artist and teacher Alan Flattmann for four days of plein air and studio painting at St. Joseph Abbey in Covington, Louisiana. Basic principles of composition, drawing, perspective, color and technique that apply to any style of representational painting will be stressed in the workshop. Alan demonstrates often and helps students individually.  Weather permitting; the class will paint on the grounds of the Abbey in the mornings and in the studio in the afternoons. Students will also have access to the spacious Abbey Art Works studio in the evenings to work on their own.

The workshop begins Monday evening with a welcome dinner and introductory talk. It ends Friday afternoon after final critique of work completed during the workshop.

Accommodations will be provided at the Abbey Retreat Center directly across from Abbey Art Works. The Retreat Center (recently renovated) offers a large common room, outdoor deck, dining room, library and chapel.  Each guest room includes a queen bed, sleeper sofa, private bath and individual temperature control. Guests are welcome to explore the Abbey’s beautiful grounds during their leisure time.

The cost of the workshop, accommodations and all meals is $875 for double occupancy and $900 for single occupancy. You must register ahead with a $200 deposit to reserve a space.
